Today is Independence Day in America. July 1st was Canadas national holiday. My hometown in New York is a border city so we embrace both. Normally it would be a 4 day party with fireworks for both and street festivals for all to enjoy. But we have 2020 this year with the pandemic and a long list of dirty laundry. I am taking the stand to not be patriotic as many are this year. But to not get on a negative spiral I want to reflect on better days.
These two nations that worked together. Where crossing the border was easy and like crossing the street. I love going 20 minutes from my home to another country and another culture. The vibe is different. Life is different. British English and French are the national languages of Canada. Canadians love coming to America as well. They enjoy the restaurants and shopping. They enjoy paying less tax. We both enjoy the different holidays and celebrating together throughout the year. I miss the diversity in restaurants for exotic meals and the lovely bake shops. Buffalo keep trying, you’re coming along but I’m sorry you’re not embracing the culture, the food, infuse your restaurants please.
When visiting Niagara Falls expand your travels and travel as a local to all the neighboring spots of Buffalo, & Lewiston, as well as Niagara Falls Ontario, Niagara on the Lake, Hamilton, Toronto and many attractions across Ontario.
And remember to pick up the lingo- can you say Scajaquada, pop, weck (be prepared for salt) loganberry, custard (no its not pudding and its better than ice cream) or Canadian side -scones, poutine, QEW (its not a word) Be ready to compare their words with the states. Its a great time. Please drop your comments if you had the opportunity to explore this area. If not this is a must once we are free to travel. Summer to autumn-fall is the best time for a visit.
Stay safe! Until next time…
