Have you found yourself in the south of Spain and wanting more, more of the history, more of the sea? How about a ferry ride across the Med to Tangier Morocco. Its a short ride and there are various carriers. Its interesting and you will pass the Straight of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. Great view of the rock can be had. Algeciras and Tenerife Spain are the main ports to arrive in Tangier in 60 to 90 minutes.

Here’s a note, there are two ports in Tangier. Tangier Med is about an hour away from the city centre and most carriers go here. There are buses available to the city centre and taxis. There is not much around this port as its residential. We took the ferry from Algeciras to Med and enjoyed the scenic tour however, next trip we will opt for the FRS ferry from Tenerife to the city centre port.  This is an excellent place to be. The harbor is modern and beautiful and steps away from the tradition and old world of the medina and many great places to explore. A beautiful balance. We stayed at Marina Bay hotel and I highly recommend for convenience and comfort. Many celebrities have stayed and you will see art work around this modern 4 star hotel. It will not disappoint nor break the bank.

Tips for a great trip- Be open minded and embrace their culture. It is a Muslim nation but has areas that caters to the tourists and western ways. Walk the medina, look at the wares they proudly sell. Be prepared to haggle prices as its the way here. Bring euros as they are in high demand and may get you a better bargain. Dress conservatively. Ladies cover the chest and shoulders. No hijab necessary. Linen slacks will work well for style and comfort. You will be climbing many stairs, the higher you go the more interesting and you will end up in the Casbah. Walking shoes and sneakers are perfect.  Stop for a traditional tea or coffee, stroll through the park or relax and let your children play. A great place to people watch and take in the beauty of the the city.

So you prefer to have a glass of wine or beer with your meal? Head back to the beach, the harbor, and you will find many delicious restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages. The medina is in a sense dry. We enjoyed a wonderful roast leg of lamb with potatoes. A very large portion and enough for two people. This is a traditional Moroccan dish and its amazing.

After our meal and spending the day in the medina we headed back to the hotel to relax poolside. We headed back out as it was getting dark and walked the harbor as everyone was headed down. It is a site to see all lit up and all the stunning yachts and boats parked. Lots of people and various things going on. Watch out for the flying light up toys hahaha The harbor is connected to the beach where there is a promenade with several clubs for all those young at heart who want to dance the night away. Remember the Marina Bay hotel is just steps away to wrap up your perfect evening.

I recommend two to three days to explore and relax. A great way to learn some of the history and immerse in the culture. As I always say travel as a local. Have a great time! Comment on what you enjoyed.
