The sun, the sea, and relaxation is calling. The south of Spain is paradise for me as well as the British and Germans. Also known as Europes playground with three hundred plus days a year of glorious sunshine. Nerja & Torrox Costa are up the coast from Malaga. They may be small however, check all the boxes. For me, Torrox is my second home. I knew it, I felt it from the moment my first trip was had there. It went from research before arrival to keys in hand before crossing the pond. Have you had an experience like this before? Far from home yet it truly feels like home. Hard to describe but a great feeling to have.
As you venture out of the Costa del Sol airport there is little reminders of the tough port city that used to be. From dicey streets turned industrial by the airport to remnants of graffiti along the motorway. A sign of the underdog that is coming out strong( I always love the underdog). As you continue south along the Mediterranean you will pass new luxury apartments and prestigious golf courses and of course the view of sea. A beautiful distraction from the road. Perhaps you will exit in Torre Del Mar or Velez and wind your way down to the sea admiring the luxury villas, then take the coastal route through towns. Either way you get to Torrox Costa or continue on to Nerja you won’t be disappointed.
Enjoy the vibe, immerse with the locals. You will find an eclectic mix of British, Germans, & Morocans all enjoying life. English is the go to language for all and of course they/we all have picked up the pleasantries of hola, buenos dias, por favor, gracias, cerveza, vino, and each visit you will add a few more. This also makes for an interesting cuisine. Perhaps you will want to stop by Wolfgang and Karina’s cafe on the sea front (promenade) and have a splendid coffee and an authentic german style cake to start your day. I promise you its mouthwatering and the real deal. I’m sure these Germans are here for the sunshine. I love Germany but the weather is another story. They are ready to have a chat with all in English of course. Maybe lunch is more your thing, there are loads to choose from and depends on the day. If its the weekend or during holidays I suggest you grab the breakfast with Wolfgang or perhaps a British cafe if eggs are what you are craving and hold out until 2pm when the Chiringuritos (my fav is Mumbo and Cacola) are serving up Paella. Once its gone its gone for the day. It is a site to see. I believe I posted about this before so please scroll through and keep this on your list of must haves.
I tend to go on as I truly love it here and I hope you will as well. Even half will give you a memorable experience. As I mentioned there is no issue with speaking English as you immerse in the culture and with the locals. Be sure to explore the architecture and the history of the Moors through the Andalusia region.
