Is it a day of morning, a day to remember, or a day to celebrate the beginning of summer? It seems to be both however, it is important to pay respects to the military who lost their lives in battle. Their fight for freedom. Many Americans will visit grave sites such as Arlington National Cemetery or perhaps if they have a loved one who has fallen go there. It is a day to place a flag on each grave site and a remembrance wreath. Most US cities will have a ceremony to include a cemetery and possibly a parade.
Additionally many Americans look at Memorial Day as the official start to summer. Perhaps because the weather has finally changed to sunny and pleasant for many snow bound cities. Families will have barbecues, the beaches will be full of excitement, and again many will possibly take their kids to the parade filling their neighboring streets. If you find your self in America during this time of year be sure to ask your airbnb host where it is at (perhaps they will be having their own celebration and you can join in) or google the local paper to find it all Whatever you do be sure to travel as a local. Don’t forget a small flag or two for the cemetery. Here is my direct link (refer a friend) to airbnb if you are interested in finding that great American family for your next trip to the states https://www.airbnb.com/c/reneew22?currency=USD I recommend Washington DC during Memorial Day. The perfect time of year to visit and see it all.
Please tell me what is your day of remembrance and how does your country honor it?
For the ESL learners please comment if you would like a lesson to this. What does day of morning mean to you? Who has fallen, past away?
