When deciding one’s next travel destination, very few people think of Croatia. After all, it’s a tiny country in southern Europe that cannot compete with the fame held by other European touristic destinations, such as their famed neighbor Italy. However, Croatia hides many breathtakingly beautiful places, especially when it comes to the seaside.
The country is bordered by the Adriatic Sea, but unlike other coastal countries, it has an unfair advantage: a lot of mountains! Exactly, you can reach the sea by descending a mountain, while enjoying the pleasant temperature: not too hot, not too cold!. This was the first thing that struck me when I visited the Croatian resort Duga Uvala in Šegotići . But first let me tell you how we ended up on this small gulf beach. Since the best way to travel like a local is to ask locals, we called some old friends who moved to Croatia for advice. Where should we go? They recommended Duga Uvala. We booked a few rooms at the Duga Uvala Resort, hopped in the car,(from Romania) and drove a day and a half to our future favorite beach destination.
The view from the balcony was stunning: the blue sea, surrounded by rich, green forests. Our first day on the beach required some extra preparations as instead of sand, we were going to sunbathe on stones. Yes, it is a rocky beach. We bought some special shoes, and thicker sun beds and we were good to go. Apart from the crystal-clear water, the refreshing breeze, and the fascinating marine animals (the shoes are also recommended for protection against sea urchins), we also enjoyed a lot of privacy. It’s not a very popular location, a hidden gem from the tourists, so there weren’t many people on the beach, and the gulf created a safe and sound atmosphere, guarding us from the hustle and bustle of urban life usually found around beaches.
Overall, our trip was memorable, relaxing, and fascinating. If you visit this country however, don’t forget to check the larger towns of the list as well. Croatia has a lot to offer. And let’s mention how smooth the trip was since the people there understood basic English. After all, English is a global language!
Added notes, Pula is the closest airport to the resort (we all can’t hop in a car for a road trip here lol) The resort has many amenities as well such as an indoor saltwater pool, a night club, and a restaurant. Additionally Šegotići is known for great wine making, a Roman amphitheater, Pula arena, and of course fishing.
Thanks Andreea for sharing your trip with us.
