Travel like a local to this Romanian gem: the town of Şuncuiuş

Have you ever wondered what secrets lie in the heart of Romanian mountains? If you want to explore the mesmerizing nature of my country, have a taste of our traditional food and travel like a local, this story is for you. And yes, english is a global language, so you won’t have to worry about getting recommendations or guidance from the people there, especially the staff from hotels!

On the western side of Romania, in the Apuseni Mountains, there is a tiny town very few tourists know about, with a really funny name: Şuncuiuş. Here you will find dreamy forests, waterfalls, a babbling river, and serene silence. Welcoming rooms, a breathtaking view, a beach and finger-licking traditional food is waiting for you at Gradia Hotel. You will probably come across many Romanian families, so don’t be surprised if you see kids running around! For something more out of the box, you can find cheap accommodation and some great picnic spots in the caravans from “Camping La Rulote”.

You might ask yourself: what will I be able to do except for sightseeing, eating and resting? I’m glad you asked this question! Şuncuiuş is probably one of the most exciting places in western Romania for mountain-lovers. Hiking, biking, rock-climbing, rafting, via-ferratas, speleological expeditions, tours where you can explore old, wooden Romanian churches, all these are close by and really affordable. However, the highlights of this area are the caves: the Unguru Mare cave and Peştera Vântului cave (the longest in Romania: 47 Km.).

We are looking forward to seeing you around!

Writer, Andreea Lupu, Thanks for the invite and inspiring us to go explore your beautiful country!
