As we move into summer 2020 and the pandemic month 3 I’m reflecting on last summer’s adventures. We are all ready to be out and enjoying some sun. Yes, it will be different but sending positive vibes and suggesting exploring locally. What special place do you have at your doorstep? I am lucky to have the Erie Canal. I posted about this last summer, perhaps you read it.

A brief history to it-The goal was to link the Atlantic Ocean to the midwestern states so they constructed the Erie Canal to connect to the Hudson River and it was opened in 1825 as a link to the great lakes, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.  With this many bedroom communities set up factories and a home and they are still thriving as quaint family suburbs today. Do you automatically want to break out in song “15 miles on the Erie Canal” or Low Bridge Everybody Down” (Thomas S. Allen) when Erie Canal is mentioned? Another fine place, body of water in the Buffalo Niagara region to discover.

Most of the United States has moved to phase 3 and some states are being more cautious than others. Luckily New York is taking careful steps. Masks and social distancing are a must. If you find yourself in the states and would like to enjoy the outdoors western New York has plenty to offer besides the famous Niagara Falls. Please read many great previous posts with tips for a great time, Hydro Biking at the Erie Canal for a great day on the water or canal side, Buffalo as a local, What does your city smell like, and Buffalo Niagara. These will mention great places to take the kids to play, places to get out on the water, & also where to eat as a local.
Stay safe & enjoy the summer as you travel like a local.
