Sayalonga Spain

by Renee Asenguah

The charming whitewashed villages of Andalusia Spain are a must see. Sayalonga is one of them. It sits up high as most do. Be prepared for a winding narrow road but no worries passing motorists are friendly and cautious. Once you reach the village its definitely worth parking and taking a walk around. Perhaps stopping for a bite to eat as this village has their own unique specialties such as sopa cachorrena and muscat wine. Sit back and relax and take it all in. You will notice the influence from Arabic times in the region and then the conversion to Roman times. For example  on their famous church- San Pedro. The bell tower is left from the 12th century when it was the mosque.
Travel like a local as you explore Spain. The people are friendly and welcoming. Many speak some English but hola and buenos dias and a friendly smile can go along way 🙂

The airport to fly into for this area is Malaga Costa del Sol. Yes, the coast is lovely but the whitewashed villages are a must see and there are many. Be ready for a slower pace that is so inviting and relaxing.
