Do you arrive by train to Santa Lucia or by taxi to be dropped off at Piazzale Roma? Both great options to be immediately embraced by the sight, the sounds, & the beauty of Venice and the canals. Whatever you do don’t arrive by cruise ship. As an added bonus if you arrive by taxi once you walk across the street to cross over the Calatrava bridge take a moment to stroll the park. A serene setting and an overlooked gem.
Venice is a city to wander and get lost. I highly recommend going off the path and away from the tourist route. Find a Piazza to sit in so you can take it all in. The smell of the cucina tossing up the local flavor, the taste of the wine, the cold smooth gelato.
Wander in and order something refreshing and relax, time stands still in Venice. Perhaps you will sit by the water and watch all the activity. See how deliveries are made, Fed Ex, building supplies, groceries, how rubbish is hauled away. Boats are a way of life and walking. Its all in a day in true Venice style. Travel as a local and feel the vibe.
Once the day has passed and you are ready for the hotel hop on the vaporetto, the local water bus. The locals will be on commuting home from a day at the office. A great way to mix with the people and see the sights of this beautiful island.
I hope you enjoy your time as much as I have. If you want hotel recommendations or to visit a store that has handmade table linens comment below. They are beautiful.
